ABCDE Conference:

The ABCDE is one of the world’s best known series of conferences on development, and an opportunity for many of the world’s finest development thinkers to present their ideas.The conference has been closely linked to the international agenda, offering a platform of exchange and contributing ideas on the G8 Summit, the European Union Presidency and other global events.

Throughout the years, the ABCDE has brought together researchers, policy makers, students, private sector and NGO representatives, and prominent leaders from all over the world, among them: the Prime Ministers of France, Belgium and Norway, the President of the EU Commission, Ministers, EU Commissioners, Nobel Prize laureates for economics, outstanding business leaders and representatives of civil society.

ABCDE 2008 will take place in Cape Town (South Africa). The title for this year’s conference is “People, Politics and Globalisation”. The 2008 conference will focus on:

  1. Globalisation, Investment and Growth
  2. Human Development for Equitable Growth
  3. The Political Economy of Shared Growth

ABCDE Support Grant:

For Whom:
Applicants must be nationals of and currently reside in a developing or transition country-Defined by the World Bank as low income, lower middle and upper middle income.

ABCDE Support Grant (ASG) is a joint program of the World Bank and the ABCDE host country, providing an opportunity to developing countries participants to take part in the Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics. The grant aims to ensure that the conference is accessible to academics, researchers, journalists, parliamentarians and leaders of the civil society from countries all over the globe.

The ABCDE Support Grant 2008 is sponsored by the National Treasury of South Africa.

Successful applicants will have their full travel expenses, visa costs and accommodation covered during the time of the conference. The ticket will be provided to the grantee and hotel will be booked for him/ her. The participants are responsible for their own visa arrangements, with assistance from the host country, if necessary. Transportation from and to the airport will be provided. Local transportation in the candidate’s country of origin will not be covered.
