Reliance Industries Limited has generously created the Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows Program to support Indian students with financial need in obtaining an MBA at Stanford.

Each year, Stanford may award up to five Reliance Dhirubhai Fellowships:

• Fellows will receive full financial support for the two-year Stanford MBA Program and all fees associated with applying and attending.
• Reliance and Stanford are dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders in India who are committed to the country’s human and socio-economic progress.
• Within two years of completing their Stanford MBA studies, Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows will return to India for a period of at least two years employment in the public or private sector.

Process and Evaluation Criteria:
Up to 50 Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows Finalists will be selected based on:
- Merit
- Commitment to developing India
- Financial need

In the second stage, those Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows finalists will go on to complete the standard application process for the Stanford MBA Program. As part of the MBA admission process, Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows finalists will be required to take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) if they have not done so already. The Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows finalists will bear none of the costs associated with the GMAT exams or Stanford application.

Stanford may select up to five Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows from among the finalists based on its primary admission criteria of:
- Intellectual vitality
- Demonstrated leadership potential
- Personal qualities and contributions

The application requirements are following:

• Educational history and scores (10th board exams, 12th board exams, Common Admission Test (CAT) and/or GMAT scores if available)
• Employment history and aspirations
• Resume/curriculum vitae (C.V.)
• 250-word essay question
• Individual financial information

Note: All Reliance Dhirubhai Fellows must return to India within two years of graduation to work for a period of at least two years.

Entrepreneurship can make an important contribution to development by providing technologies that improve people’s productivity and living standards. While the role of entrepreneurship in technological innovation has been widely studied in the context of advanced economies, less is known about entrepreneurship in developing economies. Of particular interest is the role of entrepreneurs in the quantity, quality, commercialization, and adoption of technological innovations in developing countries, and the implications thereof for economic growth, trade, poverty, and inequality. This joint workshop by the World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) and Maastricht Economic and social Research and training centre on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT) of the United Nations University (UNU) is intended as a platform for the discussion and promotion of research in this regard.

Workshop topics include:

- What is the role of entrepreneurship in technological innovation and acceleration of economic growth?How does this role differ between developed and developing countries?
- What kinds of entrepreneurship are most crucial for successful development?

Atlas Service Corps, Inc. (Atlas Corps) is an international citizen sector organization that is seeking to identify the best rising leaders in the citizen sector around the world to participate in a one-year fellowship program. Atlas Service Corps is now accepting applications for the 2008-09 fellowship program.

More on Selection Procedure:
1. Applications will be reviewed by a committee including citizen sector, government and business leaders from multiple countries. Two semi-finalists will be chosen for each fellowship position by the end of May.

2. Colombian and U.S. Host organizations will conduct phone interviews with the semi-finalists in May and early June. The Host organizations will make their final recommendations to Atlas Corps and Atlas Corps will notify the top choices by mid-June.

3. The selected overseas candidates will go to the U.S. Embassy or visit their local Colombian Consulate in their respective countries mid to late June for their J-1 / Special visa interviews. If they receive their visas, then they will become Atlas Service Corps Fellows!

The fellowship begins with an orientation and training in late August. The $500 Fellow deposit is due on the first day of Fellow orientation.

About:
engINdia.net is an online resource for student engineers. This site is a resource for numerous projects targetting challenges that face people in rural India.

engINdia exists to promote appropriate and sustainable engineering solutions in developing areas. The organization focuses on Pabal, Maharashtra, a rural village in India located 80 miles east of Mumbai. Pabal is home to Vigyan Ashram, an educational institution that focuses on rural technologies. The existence of Vigyan Ashram and Pabal’s proximity to Mumbai made it the perfect starting point for engINdia.

The Design Challenges posted on the site are project ideas created by the villagers of Pabal. The solution to each Challenge will alleviate a technological need in Pabal and help to increase the quality of life for the villagers.

Beginning of engINdia:
engINdia is a partnership between 6 students from the University of Cambridge, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). An expedition was conducted during the summer of 2005 to the area of Pabal, Maharastra. There, the engINdia team worked with Vigyan Ashram and the local community to gain an understanding and appreciation of the development issues faced by rural India which could be tackled through engineering.

During the expedition the team surveyed the attitudes of the local community and the rural technology available to the reigon. The team witnessed emerging, successful and unsuccessful development projects while conducting its own research.

The expedition was approved and partly funded by the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) and officially recognized by Cambridge University.

Contributions of engINdia:

• a resource for students who are looking for research projects that combine engineering and sustainable international development
• a communication forum for students worldwide and a rural Indian community
• a way for students and villagers to share information and opinions about engineering and sustainable development

The KAUST Discovery Scholarship is the general scholarship program of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). This program is designed to ensure that any highly talented student who is qualified and eligible to enroll in KAUST will receive full financial support while at the University. Those who receive a Discovery Scholarship will receive full tuition support, a living stipend, and summer and career enrichment programs.

KAUST will offer Discovery Scholarships to all KAUST students – an exceptional level of support intended to attract gifted and talented students from Saudi Arabia and from other countries around the world.

KAUST will offer a pre-enrollment version of this general scholarship program to students attending first-university or bachelor’s degree programs. KAUST will provide financial support to pre-enrollment Discovery Scholarship recipients at their home institutions prior to the University’s opening. Upon graduation, these students will enter KAUST as master’s degree students in September 2009 and 2010 to complete their graduate studies on a fully funded scholarship.

The scholars will serve as “Ambassadors” at global research and technical conferences and workshops. Dare to be Digital is a video games development competition for extremely talented students at Universities and Colleges of Art. Teams of 5 students, usually a mix of artists, programmers and audio, assemble in a regional hosting center for 10 weeks to develop a prototype video game, receiving daily support and weekly training sessions from industry specialists. Every year between June and August, students form teams of five and compete over 10 weeks to design a fully functioning video game prototype. At the end of 10 weeks, all the teams will gather at Dare Protoplay to showcase their work and be judged by industry experts. Dare Protoplay represents the most innovative design from emerging games artists and programmers and is open to the public to come and play the games.

At the end of the competition, the prototypes are displayed at a special talent showcasing event in Edinburgh, Dare ProtoPlay, alongside the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival in August. The general public as well as industry experts get to play and vote for the games. Prizes are then awarded to the winning teams at a special awards ceremony. Later in the year the winning teams attend the BAFTA Video Games Awards to compete for the coveted “Ones to Watch Award”.

Renault F1 Internship Programme is organised by Altran Engineering Academy. To enter the competition, candidates must submit a project, describing in 500 words a technological innovation in one of the following eight Formula 1 disciplines: aerodynamics, power-train, race and test engineering, design and analysis, vehicle dynamics, control systems and electronics, R&D of materials, transducers and test technology.Participants must be aged at least eighteen (1 years and legally able to sign a contract.

Participating in this competition, which every year attracts hundreds of young applicants from the best universities and schools worldwide, gives them a chance to share a thirst for challenge with Altran and the ING Renault F1 Team. While Formula 1 is primarily a sport and a show, it also provides an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the technological expertise of the ”people behind the scenes” – the mechanics and engineers – who work in tandem with drivers to achieve maximum performance.

Altran has been supporting the Renault F1 Team since 2002, providing talented engineers in a variety of specialities, including computation, information technology, electronics, logistics and quality control. They contribute their skills to chassis in Enstone, UK, and to engines in Viry-Châtillon, near Paris.

This exciting new global internship program in beautiful Beijing, China will be offered every fall, spring and possibly summer to students of all majors at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, including international students.

The Mason Center for Global Education, in partnership with Abroad China, offers students the unique opportunity to participate in a professional academic internship in Beijing. Students are placed in professional internships for academic credit, based on their course work, skills and personal/professional interests. Many internships will include a stipend from the company that helps pay for students daily meals and transportation. Placements include (but are not limited to) business, commerce, trade, the arts, communication, history, culture and politics.

In the 15-week fall and spring options, internships are complemented with a weekly class focusing on Chinese Life & Culture, taught by local faculty in Beijing. Students intern four days per week, gaining valuable practical experience, and participate in the formal class one day per week. Students are evaluated according to their performance at the internships, and are also required to complete reflective and research assignments as part of their coursework (From both the Mason Faculty Director and their Beijing professor). All students, both Mason and non-Mason, are eligible for career counseling, resume writing tips and internship search strategies from Mason’s University Career Services, in SUB 1, Room 348.

Criteria for the Event:

Only one HTML page is required per submission, but links should be placed so users can easily navigate a full website. Your design should also be usable on a number of different platforms and screen resolutions.
3. Code Quality: Judges will go through code for each entry, so having properly formatted code will help them. All entries will validate on the w3 validator, no exceptions. Using bandwidth efficiently to display your HTML and graphics will get more points, but that doesn’t mean that the smaller designs will get always get more points. Using CSS classes for better modifiability is a bonus as well.

The Global Forum for Health Research and The Lancet are holding their third joint essay competition for the under-30s on the theme- “Climate change and health: research challenges for the health of vulnerable populations”.

Rules and Guidelines:

1. Each author may submit one essay only.
2. Essays may be submitted in English or French and should be 1500 words maximum.
3. Essays must be based on the author’s own ideas and not be derived from another source.
4. Essays must not have been previously published.
5. Entries are individual (i.e., the work of a single author).
6. They should include original, even provocative ideas and not be technical or academic texts: tables, charts and figures are probably not necessary; references should be limited.
7. Authors are free to be idealistic, passionate, to take established practices to task, albeit in a constructive fashion.
8. Within the context of research for health, the theme allows authors to include any aspect that interests them particularly – for example, extreme weather, natural disasters, fuels and energy, transport, water management, vectors, food production, demographics, urban planning, security.

Throughout his life, Gerald Soffen dedicated himself to fostering the growth of young space scientists and engineers. The Dr. Gerald A. Soffen Memorial Fund for the Advancement of Space Science Education was established to continue Jerry’s commitment to the future of space by supporting motivated students in the fields of space science and engineering. The Dr. Gerald A. Soffen Memorial Fund for the Advancement of Space Science Education offers Student Travel Grants.

Since the fall of 2002, the Soffen Fund has provided students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in space-related sciences and engineering with Travel Grants. The Travel Grants enable awardees to attend a professional conference at which they present their research. The Travel Grants are awarded to students who attend meetings at which they will present their research.
