Youth Business Development (YBD)is a global competition launched by the Oxford MBA and MFE Classes of 2005-2006. The initiative is supported by the Oxford Business Network for Social Entrepreneurship, which brings together social entrepreneurs from the University of Oxford and their extended academic and business communities. YBD delivers critical value to its competitors by connecting them to the intellectual capital and personal networks which the international Oxford MBA and MFE networks have to offer.

The competition kicks off with teams submitting their initial “business ideas”. With the support of Oxford management students, the best ideas will then be developed by the teams into business plans and submitted for the opportunity to win funding.

The competition consists of three rounds:

Round 1: 1 page idea submission by the teams

Round 2: The most promising ideas, which show clear potential, advance to be paired with an Oxford MBA Mentor familiar with the region, and passionate about the team and their idea

Round 3: Final Business Plans are reviewed by a Venture Capital/Philanthropy Panel. Those teams which clearly demonstrate they are ready to put capital to social and economic use, YBD aims to provide the appropriate seed capital and follow on support.
